Bone Marrow Transplant Department | Haematology & High-Acuity Care

At Nathalal Cancer Hospital, Rajkot (Rajkot Cancer Society), the 7th floor is being developed as a dedicated Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Department, designed to deliver specialised, high-acuity care for patients undergoing complex haematology and transplant procedures.

The project, currently ongoing, is planned as a compact and highly controlled clinical environment with a total capacity of 17 beds within a built-up area of approximately 884 sq.m. AMRD’s planning approach focuses on achieving strict functional zoning, infection control, and efficient clinical workflows essential for transplant care.

The department includes a clearly structured programme comprising reception and waiting areas, a four-bed High Dependency Unit (HDU), an eight-bed BMT ward, and five dedicated Transplant ICU beds. This arrangement ensures seamless escalation of care from general inpatient management to high-dependency and critical transplant support.

Spatial planning separates routine BMT inpatient areas from high-acuity transplant and HDU zones while maintaining close proximity for clinical monitoring and rapid staff response. The layout is designed to support stringent infection-control protocols, patient isolation requirements, and controlled circulation systems necessary for bone marrow transplant services.

The result is a focused 17-bed BMT and high-dependency care unit that significantly enhances the hospital’s capability in advanced haematology and transplant treatment, strengthening specialised cancer care services in Rajkot under the Rajput Cancer Society.
