Day-Care & Ambulatory Hospital | Renovation & Adaptive Healthcare Planning

Located in Surat, Gujarat, ArogyaBhavan is a compact 14 bedday-care and ambulatory hospital developed for Mr. Himanshu Jariwala over approximately 465 sq.m. The project involved the renewal and internal reorganisation of an existing building, with construction completed in 2022. Rather than undertaking major reconstruction, the objective was to efficiently adapt the available spaces to meet updated clinical and operational requirements.

AMRD’s approach focused on optimising the existing layout through selective internal modifications, retaining functional areas wherever possible and redefining rooms only where required. The planning aimed to improve departmental use, patient movement and service efficiency while minimising unnecessary structural intervention. Structural details, including the provision of fire staircases, sun screens, were also incorporated to enhance safety, compliance and overall building functionality.

The ground floor accommodates the primary outpatient functions, including 6 OPDs with a procedure room, X-ray and mammography, reception and waiting, and pharmacy. The first floor was largely retained, with selected rooms redefined to accommodate Dental and ENT OPDs and the laboratory, while the existing ward, Eye OPD, OT and waiting area continued within the overall layout. The second floor was modified with limited interventions to accommodate the dialysis ward, stores and a multipurpose hall, allowing the building to support a broader range of ambulatory and day-care services within its compact footprint.

The project demonstrates how an existing healthcare building can be renewed through focused planning rather than extensive reconstruction, improving functionality while making effective use of the existing infrastructure. ArogyaBhavan reflects AMRD’s approach to compact healthcare redevelopment - efficient, practical and responsive to changing clinical requirements.
