Matushri Prabhaben Khodabhai Boghara Medical College & Research Centre (MPKB Medical College), Atkot was established with the vision of creating a centre of excellence in medical education, research, patient care and community healthcare under the guidance of Shree Patel Seva Samaj, Atkot.

The campus is planned as a student-centric academic environment, incorporating hostel facilities, sports and cultural activities, Wi-Fi-enabled learning spaces and landscaped green areas. Emphasis is placed on creating a safe, inclusive and supportive setting that promotes academic excellence, professional development, physical well-being and social interaction.

The academic infrastructure is supported by smart lecture theatres, advanced laboratories, a Central Digital Library, Skill & Simulation Lab, research facilities, seminar and conference spaces, together with an integrated Multispeciality Teaching Hospital that provides students with early and continuous clinical exposure under experienced medical professionals.

Architecturally, the Medical College is organized as a six-wing academic block connected through an L-shaped passage, allowing clear departmental zoning while maintaining strong visual and functional connectivity across the building. Externally, the six wings are articulated around and connected through courtyard spaces, allowing natural light and ventilation to penetrate between the building masses and creating a more open, breathable academic environment.

Wing 1 forms the prominent entrance block, with a stepped massing profile that reduces progressively toward the upper floors. A grand entrance at First Floor level creates a strong institutional identity visible from a distance. This wing accommodates supporting academic functions including small teaching rooms, computer laboratory, boys’ and girls’ common rooms and service areas.

Wing 2 houses a two-floor library organized around a double-height courtyard with a glazed façade at the north-east corner, allowing soft, diffused natural light to penetrate the reading and study areas. The Second Floor accommodates the Examination Hall, while the Third Floor is reserved for future expansion, reinforcing the long-term adaptability of the academic block.

Wing 3 accommodates the Skill Laboratory at the lower level, a large teaching room on the First Floor, and departmental laboratories and museums on the upper floors.

Wing 4 is dedicated to the respective departmental administrative areas, with the College Administration positioned on the First Floor.

Wing 5 accommodates the principal lecture theatres and their supporting service areas.

Wing 6 provides additional departmental laboratories and museums, completing the academic and practical teaching infrastructure.

The institution accommodates a comprehensive range of Pre-Clinical, Para-Clinical and Clinical Departments. Pre-Clinical departments include Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry, while Para-Clinical departments comprise Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Community Medicine, Forensic Medicine & Toxicology. Clinical departments include General Medicine, General Surgery, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, ENT, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Respiratory Medicine, Anaesthesiology, Radiodiagnosis and Dentistry.

Beyond conventional medical education, MPKB Medical College places strong emphasis on evidence-based clinical practice, interdisciplinary research, leadership, teamwork, professionalism and lifelong learning. Community-health and outreach programmes further connect the institution with surrounding rural populations through preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative healthcare initiatives.

Since its establishment, MPKB Medical College & Research Centre has developed as an emerging medical education institution in Gujarat, integrating modern academic infrastructure, clinical training, simulation-based learning, research and community-oriented healthcare within a cohesive medical education environment.
